A good vertical jump is one of the abilities that athletes must have especially among basketball and volleyball players. Sometimes, being able to jump high is more important than being tall. Just think of some of the most popular basketball players in the world today: Kobe Bryant, Le Bron James, Chris Paul. One of the things that these guys have in common is having a great leaping ability that allows them to go above the rim and dunk on opponents. A good vertical jump is not only useful in offense but also in defense. Just imagine being able to easily swat the shots of other players who are trying to shoot over you. Before you start developing your vertical jump though, the first thing that you should do is to measure vertical jump. This article will tell you the ways to measure vertical jump easily.

The easiest way to measure vertical jump is through a method called the chalk method. It is called as such because all that you will be needing to do it is a piece of chalk. To measure vertical jump using the chalk method, you need to stand beside a wall with a chalk in hand. Raise your hand as high as possible then mark the point that your hand reaches. With your hand still outstretched, jump as high as you can then mark the spot that your hand reaches at the peak of your jump. Now measure the distance between the two marks. That represents your vertical jump.
